We work to create opportunities for individuals to experience connection, belonging, purpose, healing, and personal growth through meaningful interactions with animals while promoting the welfare and dignity of both humans and animals.
Hidden Jewel Acres is a Nebraska-based nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a sanctuary where humans and animals can experience safety, healing, growth, and meaningful connection. Founded by Sheila Carroll, RN, a healthcare professional with nearly three decades of experience in long-term care, hospice, leadership, and education, Hidden Jewel Acres was established upon the belief that every human and animal deserves to be seen beyond diagnoses, labels, behaviors, past experiences, or circumstances.
Operating on approximately 40 leased acres near Malcolm, Nebraska, Hidden Jewel Acres currently cares for 61 resident animals and serves individuals, families, healthcare organizations, schools, veterans, caregivers, and community members throughout a 125-mile regional service area.
Through sanctuary-based programming, equine-assisted learning, community education, senior outreach, youth development initiatives, and animal welfare services, Hidden Jewel Acres creates opportunities for healing, resilience, confidence, purpose, and belonging.
The organization is committed to responsible stewardship, sustainable growth, exceptional animal welfare, community collaboration, and measurable outcomes that improve quality of life for both humans and animals.
